Botevgrad is one of five towns that complete and balances the district centers - a small town in peripheral rural and mountain region with high national importance in the areas of economy, social sphere, education, science, and culture. The institutions providing basic services for the community like education, health, administration, culture and informational centers, bank offices, and trade centers are situated in the municipal center.

Since 12.11.2016 Botevgrad municipality's mayor is Ivan Gavalyugov. The main goal that was set by the new municipal administration is to build an upright and open administration model, resulting in a better environment for the local economy and improving the quality of life for all inhabitants of the municipality.
